Cao Zhongyun, male, born in 1952 in Chongqing, Member of the Communist Party of China, Member and Honorary Chairman of Chinese Calligraphers Association; Executive Vice Chairman of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance; National Special Grade Calligrapher; Grade 9 National Master of Intangible Cultural Heritage Art; State Diplomatic Gift Artist; Contracted Artist of China Central Television and Hong Kong Television; Guest Professor of CCTV; Vice President of World Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Institute; Academician of China Hanlin Painting and Calligraphy Academy; Vice Chairman of Chinese Calligraphers Research Association; Deputy Curator of Ouyang Zhongshi Art Memorial Hall; Image Ambassador for Cross-Strait Cultural Exchange.
He was named inheritor of cursive and semi-cursive calligraphy intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture; Best Designer awarded by the Lanting Font Library Organizing Committee; "Excellent Star of Art Inheritance of Huaxia Children" conferred by the Huaxia Children Column Group of CCTV. In June 2023, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of People’s Daily, two pages themed "Art Leader under the Party, Giant of Painting and Calligraphy" were published, edited by Tie Ning, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. Inheriting Classics, the documentary record Huang Yongyu and Cao Zhongyun, Inheritors of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Culture, with a preface by Tie Ning, Vice-Chairperson of the National People’s Congress, Collection No.0018 of the National Version Museum. His works are collected by the Great Hall of the People and the Palace Museum. When Ouyang Zhongshi and Quan Xijun were alive, they jointly published Three Great Masters of the Soul of Chinese Calligraphy, published and distributed by China International Press. In December 2022, Invest in China with its title inscribed by Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, recommended artist Cao Zhongyun as a key artist for the Asia-Pacific region, published in Asia-Pacific by China International Press. China Federation of Literary and Art Circles awarded him the "Lifetime Achievement Award for Chinese Painting and Calligraphy"; the Organizing Committee of China Art Masters Exchange Center awarded him "World-Class Contemporary Chinese Artist"; UNESCO and other institutions conferred on him "Top Ten Influential Figures of 2023"; China Federation of Literary and Art Circles awarded him New Leading Figure in Contemporary Painting and Calligraphy Circle (signed and issued by Tie Ning, Vice-Chairperson of the National People’s Congress).
Since 2024, he has received the UNESCO Medal for Culture and Art. To celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year becoming an official UN holiday, he was honored as one of the Four Great Masters of Chinese Quintessence among Chinese Masters. Domestically, he won the Nobel Prize, Hundred Flowers Award, the First Prize of the National Online Painting and Calligraphy Competition of the Lanting Cup, and the Gold Award of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Magnolia Award. Media China and other media reported Cao Zhongyun — One of the Eight Most Influential Modern and Contemporary Artists. CCTV Morning News broadcast the master feature exhibition Perceiving the Charm of Art · Appreciating the Elegance of Painting and Calligraphy: Works Exhibition of Master Cao Zhongyun. He co-compiled Cross-Strait Sentiment in Ink and Wash Painting with Ma Ying-jeou, published and distributed by Chung Hwa Book Company. He was named one of the Five Tiger Generals of Painting and Calligraphy in the China-Russia Cultural Exchange Year, published by World Culture and Art Press. For the celebration
of the 60th anniversary of the successful detonation of China’s atomic bomb, he took part in the grand joint creation by Four Great Talents. CCTV Huaxia Voice reported him as "Giant in Art Circles"; International News Network hailed him as "Contemporary Sage of Calligraphy". For the celebration of the
founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, he was rated as "Pacesetter of Painting and Calligraphy Art". Recommended and reviewed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, he won the National Monument Award for Literary and Art Giants. In early 2025, he was appraised as one of the World’s Top Ten Gold Medal Artists by the Belt and Road Tourism Promotion Association and other organizations.
